A successful away day was recently held at Fairwoord Park Golf Club. Tigers and other club members boarded the coach in the club car park at 0800 sharp. The onboard bar opened by the Kilgetty roundabout with initial uptake slow due to some determined golfers who wanted to compete for first prize.
The course was a challenge, weather was damp but not as bad as it could have been. The bar re-opened on the way back, and unsurprisingly the uptake was a trifle quicker! A pit stop in Carmarthen for some more liquid refreshments and then the final leg home supported by the SPGC Tigers Male Voice Choir singing some wonderful tunes.
Thank you to Paul Grimwood for arranging the day out, Simon Bourne for providing refreshments and for everyone who attended, it was a memorable day out.
The Rabbits 2017 season has been one of change balanced with considerable improvement.
The 2017 season has seen the introduction of new playing members to the Rabbits section. These new players have served the club both impeccably and in the spirit in which the fixtures are meant to be undertaken; which is with respect, honour and in the context of what it is, which is enjoyment and meeting old while making new friends.
Through these new Rabbits players the section is in rude health and the only difficulty the new captain will face is to rotate the squad to offer everyone equal opportunities balanced with recognising and rewarding loyalty, which is a difficult balance.
Whilst secondary to the social and enjoyment dimensions the South Pembs Rabbits have finished in a respectable mid table position and the newly enlarged squad promises much in terms of improved results in the future, if that is a measure of success.
The Rabbits section have donated £250 to the main club for course improvements whilst maintaining a healthy financial balance to support the future and perhaps this base could be the foundations of future social interaction to enhance the Rabbits experience.
I must thank all the staff and volunteers at South Pembs in ensuring the Rabbits fixtures and players experiences have been more than anyone could expect. The course has always been in outstanding condition and that is not just due to hard work during normal working hours during midweek but also to the final preparations in the very early mornings on match days, so our gratitude to Barry, Percy and Glen for their excellent and hard work. Equally the clubhouse has always been and continues to be a place of warmth and that is not just the heating but the atmosphere in the bar and kitchen and of course more importantly this surrounds the helpfulness and positive attitude of the house staff. The food has always been outstanding and the service in the restaurant and bar has always made members and guests feel very welcome. For that Mell and her team have worked tirelessly to deliver a calm excellence when actually working incredibly hard. Thank you.
Colin Kaijaks – Captain SPGC Rabbits

The SPGC Quiz team were unable to successfully defend their Pembroke Dock LVA quiz league crown this season. Some inconsistent results at the start of the season meant that first place was just out of reach. Quiz team captain Terry Watkins led from the front, ably assisted by his brother Mike Watkins, Simon Bourne, Mike Swain and Alex. Congratulations to SPGC club members Steven Ronald and Simon Smith-Wrench for being members of the league winning team the ‘Charlton’.
The quizzes take place on Sunday evenings between September and March, and we would like to try and enter two teams next season. If anyone is interested in participating, please contact Terry Watkins or Simon Bourne.
